SplitJam records band rehearsals, finds the songs in them, splits them into stems and lets you share them with your band. This page explains what we store, why, and how to delete it.

SplitJam is run by Adaptive Consulting Ltd., Hungary, which is the controller of your personal data. Questions about privacy go to hello@splitjam.com.

In short: your recordings stay on your device unless you share them with a band. Only your band can see what you share. There are no ads and no tracking, and we don't sell or rent your data.

On your device

Recording, finding songs, naming them and splitting stems happen on your phone or computer. The microphone is only used while you record. You can use the iPhone app without an account; nothing leaves the device then, apart from crash reports (below).

What we store when you have an account

  • Your account: name, email address and password (stored only as a one-way hash).
  • Sign-in sessions: the IP address and browser or device they came from, kept until you sign out or the session expires (30 days).
  • Your bands and who is in them, and invitations you send (the invitee's email address).
  • What you share with a band: jams (name, date, song titles and lengths, where the songs are in the recording), the songs' audio and stems, waveforms, the band's lineup, and song fingerprints (a numeric summary of how a song sounds, used to recognise it in new recordings) with their names.

We use this only to run SplitJam: to sign you in, sync your band's songs and play shared jams. Members of a band see what is shared with that band; nothing is public. The legal basis is our contract with you (providing the service you signed up for).

Crash reports

The iPhone app sends crash and performance reports (the error, device model, iOS and app version) to Sentry so we can fix problems. They don't include your name, email or recordings. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in a working app.

Cookies and browser storage

The web app uses one cookie to keep you signed in, and keeps small preferences in your browser (such as the band you opened last). There are no advertising or analytics cookies, here or in the app.

Who processes it for us

  • Cloudflare: hosting, the database, audio storage, and sending invitation and password reset emails.
  • Sentry: crash reports from the iPhone app.

They handle the data on our behalf and only to provide their service. Some of them may process data outside the EU; where they do, it is covered by the European Commission's standard contractual clauses or an adequacy decision.

How long we keep it, and deleting your account

We keep your data while you have an account. You can delete your account at any time: in the iPhone app (Bands, then Delete Account) or on the web (Account, then Delete Account). Your name, email and password are deleted and you're signed out everywhere. Jams, songs and stems you shared stay with your bands, shown as from a former member, because they are part of the band's history; a band where you're the only member is deleted with everything in it. Recordings on your devices aren't touched.

Your rights

You can ask for a copy of your data, to correct it, to delete it, or to have it in a portable format, and you can object to or restrict how we use it. Write to hello@splitjam.com; we answer within a month. You can also complain to the Hungarian data protection authority (NAIH, naih.hu) or the one where you live.

Children

SplitJam isn't meant for children under 16, and we don't knowingly collect their data.

Changes

If this policy changes, we'll update this page and the date above, and tell you in the app if the change matters.
